Blanche sidesteps questions on federal agents at election sites

Axios reports that Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche declined Wednesday to rule out deploying federal agents to polling places. When Senator Amy Klobuchar asked whether he would commit to following federal law prohibiting armed agents at polls, Blanche said only that he would 'follow the law, no matter what it includes'—stopping short of an explicit commitment. Federal law generally bars armed federal agents from polling sites except in narrow circumstances. His non-answer has sparked a legal fight: a federal judge ordered the Customs and Border Protection agency to process documents about potential ICE deployments at voting locations, after CBP initially denied having any such records. Other administration officials, including Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, have similarly declined to rule out ICE presence.
