Maltese politicians ‘involved’ in plot to kill Daphne Caruana Galizia, court hears

world

Two former Maltese officials have been accused of involvement in the 2017 murder of investigative journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia. The Guardian reports that during testimony on Wednesday, former economy minister Chris Cardona and Keith Schembri, once chief of staff to the prime minister, were named as being part of the plot to kill her. The allegations surfaced during a chaotic day at the courts of justice in Valletta, where businessman Yorgen Fenech is standing trial, accused of ordering the assassination. Caruana Galizia, who was killed by a car bomb, had built her career exposing corruption at the highest levels of Maltese public life.
