Mexico asks US state attorneys general to investigate immigrant ICE deaths

Mexico's government is calling on US state attorneys general to open criminal investigations into the deaths of immigrants held in ICE custody or killed during enforcement raids, The Guardian reports. The request, announced Tuesday, follows the fatal shooting of Mexican immigrant Lorenzo Salgado Araujo by an ICE agent in Houston. According to the paper, seventeen Mexican immigrants have died during immigration enforcement since the start of Donald Trump's second term — fourteen in ICE custody and three during agency operations. ICE, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, is the US agency that carries out interior immigration arrests and detention.
