Moira Deeming drops legal case against Victorian Liberal party, makes last-ditch bid to avoid disendorsement

politics

A Victorian Liberal MP has dropped her legal fight against her own party. Moira Deeming abandoned a supreme court challenge against the Liberal party president, The Guardian reports, in a last-ditch effort to avoid disendorsement before the state election. The dispute stemmed from an assault allegation Deeming made against former party leader Matthew Guy—one Victoria police determined had no merit. Now without her legal leverage, Deeming is appealing directly to the party to reconsider disendorsement.
