R Kelly formally appeals to Donald Trump to commute his 31-year prison sentence

The R&B singer R Kelly has formally asked President Donald Trump to commute his prison sentence, The Guardian reports. In a filing to the Department of Justice, the fifty-nine-year-old, whose full name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, is seeking a reduction of the thirty-one years he is serving after being convicted of racketeering, sex trafficking, and producing child abuse images. He was found guilty in twenty twenty-one of leading a criminal enterprise that recruited women and underage girls, and convicted again the following year on further child abuse charges. According to the report, his lawyer has been lobbying the president for more than a year.
