world
The United States has fired on an oil tanker in the strait of Hormuz, part of its blockade on Iranian ports, as strikes hit Tehran for the first time in this round of fighting. The Guardian reports that on Thursday morning US forces disabled an unladen tanker bound for Kharg Island, firing Hellfire missiles into the ship's smokestack after it ignored repeated warnings. It came during a fifth day of strikes, amid concern the confrontation could spiral into open conflict.
