China has issued new rules for AI companions. Per Channel NewsAsia, these systems must not excessively cater to users, induce emotional dependence or addiction, or damage real interpersonal relationships. Some users in China have grown attached to AI companions as romantic partners—something the new guidelines are designed to prevent.
