Hal Williams, a familiar face across decades of American television, has died at ninety-one, Variety reports, citing his manager. Williams was best known for the sitcoms "227" and "Sanford and Son." On "227," which ran from 1985 to 1990 and centered on a group of middle-aged tenants sharing an apartment building, he played Lester Jenkins. His long career made him a recognizable presence in some of the era's staple comedies.
