Liberals say ‘all options’ should be considered despite Angus Taylor hosing down gender quota proposal
politics
The Guardian reports that Australia's Liberal Party is split on how to approach gender quotas. The party distributed a discussion paper to supporters proposing ways to improve engagement with women, multicultural communities, and young people. Party leader Angus Taylor dismissed the gender quota idea—he says he's never supported quotas. But deputy leader Jane Hume said "all options" remain on the table, and senior shadow cabinet minister Anne Ruston urged the party to act with "urgency" on these matters. Taylor, Hume, and Ruston have left the party's true position far from clear.
