Trump imposes 25% tariffs on Brazilian goods

Axios reports the Trump administration will impose twenty-five percent tariffs on many Brazilian goods starting July 22nd. The policy carves out key consumer staples like coffee and beef—an effort to shield American shoppers from inflation. The tariffs target what the administration calls unfair barriers against U.S. technology and payment companies, restrictions on American ethanol, inadequate intellectual property protections, and insufficient enforcement against illegal deforestation. The decision stems from a year-long trade investigation under Section 301 of the Trade Act. Though Brazilian officials have grown more constructive in recent weeks, the two sides remain too far apart to avoid the tariffs.
