Trump speech gives TV networks a tough choice

politics

President Trump will deliver a primetime address Thursday night on election integrity and voting system security. According to Axios, networks face an uncomfortable choice: Trump hasn't explicitly said whether he'll revisit his two thousand twenty claims about the election, but the networks have spent years steering clear of amplifying those claims, which were debunked. The pressure is complicated by the FCC, which under Trump ally Brendan Carr has launched investigations into broadcast networks. So the major outlets are caught between maintaining their editorial standards against amplifying false claims, and facing regulatory scrutiny. Most have historically aired Trump speeches with follow-up fact-checks, though some have cut away when claims became especially baseless. Whether they air Thursday's address remains an open question.
