Democrats allege Trump administration stalled US-Canada bridge opening as a favor to billionaire donor
politics
Per the Guardian, Democrats allege the Trump administration deliberately delayed the opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge—a four-point-seven-billion-dollar, publicly-owned crossing between Detroit and Windsor, Ontario—as a favor to billionaire Matthew Moroun, who owns the competing Ambassador Bridge and has donated to Trump.
The ribbon-cutting was originally scheduled for early June but was abruptly cancelled amid disputes between US and Canadian officials. On July tenth, both countries announced they'd reached a deal, and the bridge will open on July twenty-seventh.
