Survey: Californians really don’t want more data centers

A Public Policy Institute of California survey found that Californians strongly oppose building artificial intelligence data centers in their communities. A poll of one thousand five hundred seventy-eight adults found that seventy-three percent opposed such construction, CalMatters reports. Sixty-three percent cited environmental concerns, with opposition strongest in the Inland Empire, Los Angeles, and the San Francisco Bay Area. The finding presents a challenge for the AI industry, which supports an estimated six hundred sixty-five thousand California jobs and contributes billions in state and local taxes.
