US manufacturing employment is down, but each state has its own story

Manufacturing employment declined point-four percent year over year, but the Federal Reserve's FRED Blog reveals a drastically different story at the state level. Connecticut and Louisiana both added manufacturing jobs—up three and two percent respectively—while others contracted sharply: Alaska fell five point six percent, and the District of Columbia dropped nine point one percent. In smaller economies with limited manufacturing footprints, even a single factory opening or closing can dwarf the national trend.
