Young people are among the most at risk of stalking – but many don’t recognise it

Per the Crime Survey for England and Wales, around one point four million people aged sixteen and over experienced stalking in the year ending March twenty twenty-five. But research from the University of South Wales finds young people often fail to recognize it—particularly when it comes from someone they know. Researchers spoke with eighty-four young people aged sixteen to twenty-four and found most pictured stalkers as creepy strangers, not classmates or people they see every day. Stalking commonly involves someone the victim already knows, and it often precedes domestic homicide. Young people in the study wanted more education about what stalking looks like, how social media has transformed it, and where to find help.
