Hubbell Rubbell in Howard, Kansas
other
Jerry Hubbell was a rancher in Howard, Kansas who learned welding to repair farm equipment. But then he kept welding—for decades—creating a roadside folk-art installation made from scrap metal and whatever else was lying around. Per Atlas Obscura, the site features his welded sculptures: a cowboy, a dinosaur, a tin man, a giant insect, and a pig in glasses, all sharing space in this rusty universe. Hubbell eventually had to stop due to health issues, but many pieces have been refreshed over the years and looked new as recently as twenty twenty. It's the kind of place where a stagecoach, a teepee, Batman, and a purple dinosaur coexist without explanation—because the point isn't coherence. It's expression.
