Inkling: Our open-weights model

Per Simon Willison's Weblog, Mira Murati's Thinking Machines Lab has released Inkling, an open-weights AI model. The model contains nine hundred seventy-five billion total parameters, with forty-one billion active, and was trained on forty-five trillion tokens of text, images, audio, and video. It's licensed under Apache two point zero. The lab is positioning Inkling not as a frontier model, but as a strong multimodal base for fine-tuning through their Tinker platform—making it competitive with other open-weight contenders like Nvidia's Nemotron and Google's Gemma Four.
