Ukraine's defense minister, Mykhailo Fedorov, says he told President Zelensky that defeating Russia would require firing two top military commanders: General Oleksandr Syrskyi and Andrii Hnatov. Zelensky refused and dismissed Fedorov instead, per Meduza. Fedorov claimed that Syrskyi was unwilling to discuss military problems and issued an ultimatum—Fedorov or himself. Fedorov argues that as the war has fundamentally changed, Ukraine's military strategy must too, and that the country's battlefield momentum is now breaking, which is driving public protests.
