Ava DuVernay to make Netflix documentary 14th on birthright citizenship

entertainment

Ava DuVernay, the filmmaker behind Selma and 13th, has completed a new documentary for Netflix examining the Fourteenth Amendment. As The Guardian reports, the amendment—which guaranteed liberty and rights to formerly enslaved people after the Civil War—now faces legal challenges from Donald Trump. The film, titled 14th, releases later this year and marks DuVernay's return to nonfiction following her 2016 documentary 13th, which examined the legacy of slavery's constitutional abolition.
