A decades-old missing persons case in southern California has reached a resolution. The Guardian reports that authorities have identified remains found near Sugarloaf Mountain as those of Thelma Gaston, a Los Angeles millionaire who vanished in nineteen eighty-one. The Riverside county sheriff said investigators used genetic genealogy and dental records to make the identification, more than forty years after her disappearance. Gaston's thirty-nine-year-old companion was convicted of second-degree murder after she went missing — but her remains were only now confirmed.
