Fuel prices in the US have returned to levels last seen over a year ago, The Guardian reports. Diesel now averages more than five dollars per gallon, with gas at nearly four dollars, according to the AAA—prices unseen since before a June US-Iran memorandum. The jump hits truckers and consumers hard: a year ago, diesel averaged three dollars and seventy-two cents a gallon, meaning the cost has risen roughly a dollar and a quarter. Underlying the price climb are ongoing US-Iran tensions and the volatile rhetoric emanating from both capitals.
