NASA Welcomes Serbia as Newest Artemis Accords Signatory
science
Serbia became the sixty-ninth nation to sign the Artemis Accords on Thursday, joining the international framework for peaceful space exploration. NASA Deputy Administrator Matt Anderson hosted the ceremony at agency headquarters, where Serbia's Foreign Minister Marko Đurić formalized the nation's commitment to collaborate on lunar and deep space missions. Per NASA, Serbia brings significant historical credentials to the agreement—Serbian-American engineers were instrumental to the Apollo program, including Milojko Vučelić, recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his role in bringing Apollo 13 safely home, and the broader group known as the Serbian Seven. The Artemis Accords, established in twenty twenty, commit nations to transparent, peaceful exploration while coordinating research and technology sharing. With President Trump's directive to establish a sustained lunar outpost, signatories are now invited to contribute to Moon Base development.
