Simon Willison's Weblog suggests a tongue-in-cheek solution to hyperscalers' water-consumption problem. Google used ten point nine billion gallons in twenty twenty-five, roughly thirty million gallons per day. Willison's proposal: buy up golf courses in water-stressed regions and convert them to parks. His numbers: the Coachella Valley has one hundred twenty golf courses using seven hundred fifty thousand gallons daily collectively. Google could offset its consumption by acquiring just forty of them. While presented with humor, the proposal points to a real challenge—data center water consumption is a growing concern for hyperscalers.
