Taking salsa classes can improve mental health, Oxford study suggests
health
The Guardian reports on a new study out of Oxford suggesting that salsa classes can meaningfully improve mental health. In an eight-week trial, researchers studied one hundred twenty-one young adults dealing with mild to moderate depression or anxiety, randomly assigning some to salsa dance classes and others to a control group. Those who danced showed measurable reductions in both depressive symptoms and social anxiety. Beyond the well-known physical benefits of dance, this Oxford research adds evidence that the mental health gains could be just as significant.
