Why did energy-saving tips disappear from the Energy Department website?

politics

Per Grist, the Department of Energy removed more than sixteen hundred pages from its Energy Saver website this summer, eliminating homeowner resources on air sealing, insulation, and energy efficiency. Among the deleted pages was guidance recommending thermostats between seventy-five and seventy-eight degrees. The removal coincided with a New York City mayor's call for residents to set AC to seventy-eight degrees during a heat wave — a suggestion that drew Republican criticism. On July second, the Energy Department also announced a rule making it harder for future administrations to approve appliance efficiency standards. The agency has not explained the timing or the removals, though the action fits a recent pattern of the Trump administration removing climate and energy information from federal websites.
