France grants asylum to Alexei Moskalev, the Russian father jailed over his daughter’s antiwar drawing, and his daughter, Masha

world

Alexei Moskalev and his daughter, Masha, have been granted political asylum in France, according to Meduza. Moskalev was imprisoned for two years in Russia for posting antiwar comments online — a case that drew international attention because it began after his daughter drew an antiwar picture in art class. When authorities arrested him, his daughter was placed in state care, though she was later raised by her mother. After his release in 2024, Moskalev reclaimed his daughter, and the two fled Russia together. They arrived in France on a humanitarian visa in March and have now been granted political asylum.
