Ilya Remeslo, the informant who helped put Navalny in legal jeopardy, just learned what it costs to call Putin a war criminal

politics

A former Kremlin informant and blogger, Ilya Remeslo, has been detained on charges of spreading false information about the military. But his lawyer says the posts that triggered the case are actually Remeslo's criticism of President Putin. He had been a pro-Kremlin figure until March, when he published a call for Putin's resignation and trial as a war criminal. Remeslo was quickly hospitalized in a psychiatric clinic — widely seen as political punishment. He was discharged in April with an implicit warning about the cost of criticizing senior officials. Yet he continued posting, building an audience of over one hundred twenty thousand subscribers on Telegram. Meduza reports that his detention now shows that warning was only the beginning.
