Koko Crater Tramway in Honolulu, Hawaii

other

On the Hawaiian island of Oahu, an abandoned World War II radar-station tramway has become one of the island's most brutal hiking trails. The Koko Crater track covers roughly one point six miles with over one thousand steps and eleven hundred feet of elevation gain, Atlas Obscura reports. The U.S. Army originally built it to supply personnel and materials to the summit station, but it was decommissioned in nineteen sixty-six as radar technology became less central to military strategy. Hikers who reach the summit are rewarded with unobstructed views of the shoreline and Maunalua Bay — a hard-earned panorama.
