Grace Episcopal Church of City Island in Bronx, New York
other
While Manhattan and Brooklyn each claim a Grace Church from the eighteen-forties, the Bronx's City Island has its own: Grace Episcopal Church, completed in eighteen forty-nine. The church grew out of the efforts of Reverend Cornelius Winter Bolton, his sister Adele—who raised the funds—and his brother John, who designed the stained glass. Built by workers from a local shipyard in Carpenter Gothic style, its wooden rafters reflect the maritime setting. It's now a National Historic Place, Atlas Obscura reports.
