Kidnapped US Forest Service employees released after more than 12 hours, say authorities

Two US Forest Service employees who were taken hostage in far northern California have been released after more than twelve hours in captivity, The Guardian reports. According to the Siskiyou county sheriff, Jeremiah LaRue, law enforcement arrested two men over the alleged kidnapping, which happened near Gumboot Lake in the Shasta-Trinity national forest. The sheriff shared the account with reporters on Friday afternoon, saying the two federal employees were freed early that morning.
