Corrimony Chambered Cairn in Corrimony, Scotland

other

Deep in the Scottish Highlands, the Corrimony Chambered Cairn stands as a four-thousand-year-old window into Bronze Age burial practices. Per Atlas Obscura, this circular stone structure—about fifteen meters across—features a passage leading to a central chamber, its entrance aligned to the southwest in what may have held astronomical or ritual significance. An excavation in nineteen fifty-two revealed the outline of a crouched burial and a bone pin, offering clues to the high-status individuals once interred here. Ringed by eleven standing stones and maintained by Historic Environment Scotland, the cairn is free to visit year-round, providing a rare glimpse into the ingenuity and beliefs of Scotland's ancient communities.
