Atlas Obscura profiles a roadside memorial in Scheiben, Austria, honoring Anna Freitag, a well-liked post office manager who was murdered in 1936. According to the outlet, the 26-year-old was intercepted on her walk home by a local gendarme, Alois Eder, who cut her throat and stole the post office keys to reach a stash of workers' wages. Eder was arrested days later, confessed, and was executed by hanging in 1937. Postal workers from across Austria pooled money to raise the monument near where she died, and the bend in the road there is now known as the Anna Freitag Curve.
