Devil’s Pulpit at Lehigh Gap in Slatington, Pennsylvania
other
Atlas Obscura explores Devil's Pulpit, a geological formation in Pennsylvania's Lehigh Gap. Located just over a mile from the Lehigh Gap Nature Center near Slatington, the rocky outcrop sits at roughly five hundred nine feet in elevation and overlooks Palmerton and the Lehigh River. Local folklore suggests the devil himself once preached from this very spot—no evidence supports it, but the dramatic landscape makes the legend's origin easy to understand. Hikers reach it via the Woodpecker Trail, which connects to the Appalachian Trail, or the blue-marked North Trail. With luck, you might observe a bald eagle or osprey soaring overhead.
