COOP Anti War Cafe in Berlin, Germany

Berlin's COOP Anti-War Café draws tourists with its cluttered retro aesthetic and cheap beer, decorated throughout with Soviet and leftist political imagery. Atlas Obscura recently profiled the café, which owner Heinrich Bücker has run since the early two-thousands; Bücker, shaped by East German education, has filled it with posters and memorabilia reflecting a pro-Soviet point of view. His support for current Russian military actions led to court proceedings in twenty twenty-two, though the case ultimately resulted in no punishment. As of July twenty twenty-five, Bücker transferred day-to-day management to an association focused on dialogue with nations of the Global South, citing his age and financial struggles, while remaining as chairman.
