Scores of carers overpaid more than £20,000 last year despite reforms

Per The Guardian, Britain's carer allowance system is still tripping up unpaid carers, despite reforms introduced to prevent exactly this. Last financial year, more than thirty-two thousand carers were overpaid. The tab: thirty-three million pounds in repayment demands. Some faced bills exceeding twenty thousand pounds, and hundreds now risk prosecution as a result of what officials describe as systemic failures. The Department of Work and Pensions promised to fix this over a year ago, but the problem persists.
