Five family members found dead after flash flood in Utah canyon, police say
world
Five members of the same family were killed when a flash flood tore through canyons in southern Utah on Friday, law enforcement officials say. The Guardian reports the victims were a captain in the Provo fire department, along with his wife and their three sons, who had set out for a day of hiking near Bicknell during heavy rains. Fire officials say a daughter who did not join the trip survived. Flash floods are a recurring hazard in the narrow slot canyons of the American Southwest, where rain falling miles away can send water surging downstream with little warning.
