Iran says not a single drop of oil or gas will move through the strait of Hormuz, as the United States carries out a ninth straight night of strikes, The Guardian reports. US Central Command said it had successfully completed the ninth consecutive evening of operations, hitting Iranian military command centers, air defenses, coastal surveillance sites, maritime capabilities, missile and drone launch sites, and communications networks — an effort it described as diminishing Iran's ability to attack commercial vessels and civilian mariners passing through the strait. In a post on X, the command said the US military is holding Iran accountable at the commander in chief's direction. Iran's Revolutionary Guard, for its part, says it targeted American aircraft in Jordan and stopped two tankers in the waterway. The strait of Hormuz is the narrow passage at the mouth of the Persian Gulf through which a large share of the world's seaborne oil trade moves, which is why each side's claims over who controls it carry weight far beyond the region.
