‘Satluj’ Review: A Moving Indian Activist Drama Pulled From Circulation

entertainment

Variety has a review of "Satluj," Honey Trehan's Indian drama about a Sikh activist in the nineteen nineties who investigates extrajudicial killings. The critic finds it emotionally powerful even as it leans hagiographic in its portrait of its subject. Nearly as notable as the film itself is the story of its release: it was pulled without explanation from the Toronto International Film Festival lineup in twenty twenty-three, when it carried the title "Punjab ninety-five," and it remains out of circulation.
