U.S. measles cases surpass last year's total: Tracker

Axios reports that U.S. measles cases this year have climbed to two thousand two hundred ninety-five, passing last year's total and reaching a level not seen in thirty-five years. The count comes from a Johns Hopkins University tracker that compiles state and local health data, and the majority of cases are in unvaccinated people. Public health officials say vaccination coverage has to stay above ninety-five percent to maintain herd immunity. South Carolina, Utah, Texas, Florida and Arizona have logged the most cases, and the rebound comes with top health posts including CDC director and surgeon general still vacant. Per Axios, the country's measles elimination status is due for review in November.
