FreeInk: an open ecosystem for e-readers

Adafruit is reporting on FreeInk, an open-source collective that's building the complete stack for e-paper readers. Every layer—software, firmware, hardware—ships in the open. At the core is a hardware-independent SDK that lets a single codebase run across eight different platforms, with more possible. The idea is to give communities real control over their reading devices, instead of relying on proprietary systems. All the code is available on GitHub.
