‘I would rather be poor’: man says money cannot compensate for partner’s death after failed cancer diagnosis

A man who won a payout from the NHS over his partner's death says no amount of money can make up for losing her. The Guardian reports that Darren Rosheski's partner, Helen Dutton, died of rectal cancer after a GP misjudged her symptoms, which included back pain, passing blood and altered bowel habits. He recalls a hospital consultant finding a large lump and warning that her condition looked, in the doctor's words, very sinister. Rosheski says he would rather be poor than have received the settlement, underscoring that the compensation cannot answer for a death he believes earlier diagnosis might have changed.
