Trump seizes on New Jersey election error to boost misleading fraud claims

New Jersey announced Tuesday that a software error had registered six thousand six hundred noncitizens to vote, but fewer than four hundred actually cast ballots. Days earlier, Trump claimed the Department of Homeland Security had identified two hundred seventy-eight thousand noncitizens on voter rolls in New Jersey and three other states. Per the Guardian's review of DHS letters, the agency expressed less certainty about that number and offered no explanation of its methodology. Election experts say the data is designed to create a false argument.
