France evacuates Cap Ferret peninsula as Spanish wildfires merge near Madrid – Europe live

France is evacuating the Cap Ferret peninsula as wildfires sweep across parts of Europe, The Guardian reports. Residents there are fleeing by boat or along the single road linking the area to the mainland, while officials near Madrid have ordered evacuations of their own as Spanish fires merge. The Guardian says France's south-east is also under strain, where flames fanned by the mistral wind have destroyed around twenty-five houses near the historic village of Cotignac since Tuesday.
