CA landlord fights law meant to help low-income renters

CalMatters reports that a Sacramento property manager is challenging California's ban on housing discrimination against Section 8 tenants. Tower Bridge Property Management and its owner argue that the state's required unit inspections and paperwork violate Fourth Amendment protections against unreasonable searches. Section 8 — the Housing Choice Voucher Program — helps low-income renters cover part of their rent on the private market. California has prohibited such discrimination since twenty twenty, joining fourteen other states and Washington D.C., but similar legal challenges are underway in New York and Virginia.
