Jacinta Allan resigns as Victorian premier ahead of leadership challenge by Ben Carroll

The Guardian reports that Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan has resigned from her position after a tumultuous 48 hours in which her party's MPs told her she'd lost their support. Deputy Premier Ben Carroll will now contest the Labor leadership with Allan's endorsement. The leadership transition comes four months before the state election.
