Michigan progressive Abdul El-Sayed says ‘ogre’ remark not directed at rival

Abdul El-Sayed, Michigan's Democratic Senate candidate, addressed recent comments at Monday's debate. According to The Guardian, in leaked audio from a Zoom call, El-Sayed told supporters that 'ideally you put one ogre on a pike, and then everyone else gets the message.' He clarified that the 'ogre' reference was directed at US Senator John Fetterman, not at his primary opponent Haley Stevens. This was the final head-to-head debate before Michigan's August fourth primary.
