What Brazil can teach CA when it comes to kids and tech

CalMatters reports that California's child protection approach lags behind what Brazil just implemented. This year, Brazil enacted a comprehensive children's privacy law—called the ECA Digital—despite sustained tech industry lobbying. The law gives parents granular controls over social media features: they can restrict automatic playback, limit messaging, and manage other specific functions. California has been a pioneer on child tech safety compared to most U.S. states, but the state may have plenty to learn from Brazil's more rigorous framework, especially when it comes to resisting tech industry pressure. An academic at the University of San Diego told CalMatters the American regulatory system is uniquely vulnerable to technology company lobbying power. California is expected to vote on bills later this year aimed at protecting children from chatbots and from addictive social media feeds.
