Imprisoned writer Mumia Abu-Jamal seeks UN intervention after 44 years behind bars

world

Per The Guardian, imprisoned writer Mumia Abu-Jamal has taken his case to the United Nations. The former Black Panther and author of fifteen books filed a petition on Tuesday with the UN's working group on arbitrary detention in Geneva—now seventy-two years old and forty-four years into his incarceration. He maintains he was imprisoned for a crime he did not commit and, having exhausted all domestic legal channels, is seeking relief through the Human Rights Council.
