A judge sent a doctor to evaluate California’s largest ICE detention center. What he found

A court-appointed monitor says U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is failing to provide adequate healthcare at the California City Immigration Processing Center, a former state prison now run by CoreCivic. According to CalMatters, Dr. Muthusamy Anandkumar's report found thirteen deficiency areas, including inadequate emergency and dental care and delayed access to prescribed medications, and attributed the problems to staffing and management gaps rather than individual caregivers. The monitor was appointed in March as part of a lawsuit brought by seven detainees alleging due-process violations, and a plaintiff quoted by the ACLU said he never received medication prescribed for an infection. CoreCivic says the facility offers daily physical and mental health access and round-the-clock emergency services, coordinating outside care when needed.
