US Senate confirms Jay Clayton as intelligence director, after Wyden calls him Trump’s ‘election conspiracy wingman’ – live

politics

The Senate has confirmed Jay Clayton as director of national intelligence in a fifty-one to forty-seven vote. Per The Guardian, Oregon Democrat Ron Wyden opposed the confirmation, calling Clayton an unqualified conspiracy theorist and Trump's 'election conspiracy wingman.' Meanwhile, The Guardian reports that President Trump is scheduled to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Tuesday morning in a closed-door session. The meeting is expected to be more cordial than their tense encounter last year, when Trump told Zelenskyy 'you don't have the cards.' The two leaders had a friendly meeting at a NATO summit earlier this month, reflecting a recent shift in the administration's approach to Ukraine.
